One test and a number of strategies to choose from. Will you look upon the internet and find the ways to prepare or you will devise your own method? How will you know which one of them would really work for you? If you don’t know the answers to these yet, there is a possibility that you are thinking of opting the hit and trail method. But, thinking of considering such an approach is HIGHLY UNADVISABLE. You don't not want to spend on the test fee again just because you couldn’t come up with a preparation strategy. It is high time that you start thinking about it because this test will decide your future.
Preparing for the PTE Academic test can be tricky. At times you may feel that it is just about English, and clearing the test would be your cup of tea. However, the diverse question types in PTE demand complete knowledge about the question solving strategies and practice.
Once you decide to start practicing, you need to know what to do and how to do. This is where a major difference lies, whether you opt for hard work or smart work. There is no definite distinction between the two, but there surely is a difference of self evaluation and management.
You might work hard for the whole day and not achieve the desired result, just because you didn’t come up with a strategy. Or you might opt for various tricks which may simply ruin your score.
Hard work always pays off! But will it help in a PTE Academic test? A hard working student will obviously practice a lot and that is much required to score in the PTE Academic test. The different sections, the different task types- all need a thorough understanding. Practicing each question type and for long hours will help you gain confidence and get clear understanding about the test. But, is that enough? Do you know where you lack and where you excel? Have you noticed your weak points? Are you working on your mistakes? At this point, the difference between smart work and hard work can be seen.
The contrast between the two has changed the old adage, hard work always pays off, to- Play it smart! Hard work aims at completing things and smart work means doing the same things with efficiency. Just doing the tests, attempting everything won’t reap a good fruit. Follow a different style, in fact develop your own style. Everyone is different and long hours of efforts don’t work in the same way for everyone. Study the question types, take a practice test or two, get them evaluated, see where you stand and then start working. Once you know everything about the test structure, differentiate the tasks that need more attention from those that form your strengths. Work with a strategy and regular evaluation. See if there has been improvement. Work hard on the grey areas more rather than doing the whole test again and again. This will only waste your time. Even the coaching duration depends on the evaluation you make. Your time is scarce and you should invest it in the best possible manner.
You do need to work hard but only by playing it smart and you definitely need to practice, there are no doubts about that. But you need to decide if you want to practice practice practice, or practice evaluate improve. It is your time, your money and your decision. So, don’t hustle and give it a thought.
